About the Artists
Michael and Lisa Pitkow’s lives changed forever when their son Jake was born. Not only did he complete their family, he unexpectedly guided both his parents to new careers. 

Before Jake, Michael managed small private investment fund and was a writer. Lisa was the National Sales Director for a clothing company. At a New York trade show 6 months before her due date, she saw some charms at a vendor’s booth  that  reminded her of a seagull-shaped pin she always wanted, but never bought. On a whim, Lisa bought the materials and decided to make her own pin.

Recalling that moment, Lisa now says, “Of course, I didn’t know what I was doing.”  Nevertheless, she finished her design and wore the pin. One day she received the ultimate compliment when a Nordstrom clothing buyer asked her about purchasing it. “I told Michael and we laughed,” she said. “We thought it was funny.”

Right before Lisa was to become a full-time mom, Michael surprised her with a gift – a large bin filled with antique beads and charms. Lisa began to make pins in her spare time to sell to fashion boutiques like Hollywood’s posh Fred Segal. She started getting so many orders that she then asked Michael to step in and help.

Together they designed jewelry recognized for radiant color. The pair insists that MichaeLisa – a designer collection in affordable Technibond™ – possesses the same qualities and wearable sensibility as their luxury lines.

“We don’t believe in disposable jewelry. Our jewelry is made to be collectable,” says Lisa. “It’s ageless and timeless. When you buy jewelry, you want to love it and be able to wear five years from now.”

Their joint jewelry careers have been going strong for almost 20 years – through Jake’s entire childhood and into his college years.

 
“I did it because of him. Not for him – because of him. I have multiple sclerosis and while I’m proud that we have our own business and have made other people happy, I mostly pleased that we’ve set what we think is a good example for our son.  He always had his parents there for him, and that to us is the most important job,” says Lisa.
