the story behind jean dousset Meet the individual behind the artistry
About the artist
Jean has lived a life most people have only dreamed of: traveling the world, rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s elite, and building an admirable career and reputation.

His story begins in Paris, France, where he was born in 1971 into the extended family of Louis-François Cartier, founder of the famous Cartier brand and master jeweler to European royalty.

Jean’s adventurous personality brought him to the United States at the age of 17. He graduated high school in San Francisco, then trekked to Spain to study design and international art history.

When called to fulfill his military obligations back home, Jean returned to France, only to be shipped to Africa and the Caribbean to serve. Upon his return, fate drew him to Paris’s legendary jewelry hub “12, Place Vendome,” where he met the CEO of renowned design house, Chaumet. It was there, surrounded by the world’s finest gemstone creations, that Jean dedicated his career to designing luxury jewelry.

In 1996, three years after his life-turning commitment, Jean began working under Alain Boucheron, head of the great “House of Boucheron.” There he honed his skills alongside the workshop’s most gifted artists.

In 1999, Jean joined the prestigious “Van Cleef & Arpels” jewelry house as the International Director of High Jewelry Exhibitions. His position took him to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bahrain, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Israel, Greece and Mexico. From 2001 to 2004, he concentrated exclusively on the Beverly Hills market. He hobnobbed with the elite, even collaborated with Barbra Streisand to create a special pink diamond necklace.

After more than a decade in some of the world’s most admired jewelry houses, Jean launched his own company with a handful of select celebrity clients. Among his heavily publicized work was Eva Longoria’s highly praised engagement ring.

After gaining notoriety for his custom jewelry and celebrity clientele, Jean created an HSN-exclusive collection, inspired by 19th century jewelry and built with budget-friendly Absolute™.

“I wanted to design an affordable jewelry line with Absolute™ – bringing the same level of artistry and attention to details that some of the most expensive fine jewels possess,” Jean says.

Collection description
Jean describes his collection as being timeless, sophisticated and ultra-feminine. Large clusters of small stones encircle multiple-carat centerpieces to frequently form clovers, hearts, flowers, and tear drops.
